Acoustic emission (AE) technique that is capable of diagnosing the failure process of stressed materials has rarely reported its application to sandy soils subjected to triaxial compression. In this paper, drained triaxial compression tests incorporating with a high-performance AE measurement system were conducted for dry sands with different confining stresses and initial relative densities. Generally, an increased confining stress or initial relative density generates more acoustic emissions, while there also exist exceptions due to different failure patterns. A good resemblance between stress–strain and AE hit rate–strain relations was observed, and power functions between the mechanical parameters and AE hit rate were well established regardless of different confining stresses and initial relative densities. Besides, the behavioral state of yield and peak during compression could be also evaluated by AE hit rate, compared with conventional stress–strain determination. Particularly, the peak AE hit rate is found not always synchronous to but fluctuating at around the peak stress depending on different failure patterns, which might provide beneficial insights into the incipient failure of sands. The present good consistencies suggest that AE characteristics could be used as alternative parameters to evaluate and even predict the mechanical behavior of dry sands.
Phase equilibria for the NaCl/KCl-PEG400-H_2 O aqueous ternary systems at 298 K were studied using an isothermal dissolution method. In addition, the densities and refractive indices were determined. The corresponding phase diagrams,as well as the density vs. composition and refractive index vs.composition diagrams, were plotted. Results revealed that over the entire PEG400 composition range studied at 298 K only 1 liquid phase was obtained, without the formation of a biphase region. The phase diagrams of these 2 systems consist of 1 homogeneous area with unsaturated liquid( L) and an equilibrium area containing the solid phase of NaCl/KCl and the saturated liquid phase( S + L). The solubility of NaCl/KCl decreases with the addition of PEG400 at 298 K. 相似文献
Classical depth-integrated smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) models for avalanches are extended in the present work to include a μ(I)− rheological model enriched with a fragmentation law. With this improvement, the basal friction becomes grain distribution dependent. Rock avalanches, where grain distribution tends to change with time while propagating, are the appropriate type of landslide to apply the new numerical proposal. The μ(I)− rheological models considered in the present work are those of Hatano and Gray, combined with two different fragmentation laws, a hyperbolic and a fractal-based law. As an application, Frank avalanche, which took place in Canada in 1903, is analyzed under the scope of the present approach, focusing in the influence of the rheological and fragmentation laws in the evolution of the avalanche. 相似文献
